Hello, I noticed that the checklist at the page www.sqlsecurity.com/checklist.asp suggests disabling the SQL Mail capability. How is that accomplished? Is it done by simly not creating a MS Mail profile on the server? Just curious. Jim Neilson

Basically, this means not assigning a profile to the Support Services/SQLMail area of EM as of SQL 2K. In olden days SQL Mail was treated differently but its still a pain to use. I don't know why anyone thinks setting up a MAPI profile is a reasonable requirement for sending an email. At least they could provide a SMTP/MAPI selection so we could opt to send mail using standard SMTP. Lets start sending our emails to sqlwish@microsoft.com
